The convenience of the internet: (artifact 1)

http://mashable.com/2011/01/04/internet-surpasses-television-as-main-news-source-for-young-adults-study/

The internet has definitely influenced the way I find information.  I do not need a television in my dorm room because I can find everything I need on the internet.  I do not watch much television but spend hours online. It seems that every time I go online twenty minutes will turn into an hour.  When I have nothing to do, I will sit on the internet looking up unintelligent websites and waste away as my brain turns into mush.  Information is instant when it comes to the web. Who needs to go to the mall or store when a person can buy everything online?   The internet has also been a great way to catch up with old friends, which I have not seen in years.  As much as I do not like Facebook, it is hard to delete it because it is my way of keeping in contact with friends and family.  In addition, to being a part of the social network, I also spend time catching up on my favorite television shows.  I prefer watching shows on a television because it is better quality, but websites like Hulu and Youtube are more convenient.  The handiness of the internet is what makes it so compelling. Time is of the essences when you are a college student. Having something as fast as the internet at your fingertips keeps people coming back.  My 21-month nephew even knows what the internet is for; he sits and watches Sesame Street for hours.  The statistics in the article are not surprising because the internet has changed the way people find knowledge, and spend their time.

  1. I am the same when it comes to having a t.v. in my dorm room. I also don't have a t.v. in my room because I feel like what's the point if I have a computer. However, I do like to watch my favorite shows and movies on a bigger screen occasionally. As far as Facebook goes, at times it can be really annoying, but it is a great way to keep in touch with people. Anyway, I really liked your response to this article!

  2. I really don't watch T.V at all. If I didn't have the internet I would never really know what is going on. Like you explained in your summary, this is just the way that our generation has become. We go to the internet when there is nothing to do. Since we are in college and might not have the time we wish to do things like watching our favorite T.V shows or shopping; we can do those things in our dorm rooms at 3am if we wish because of all the internet has to offer us. I know many people would agree in saying that the internet has just made a lot of daily tasks easier.

  3. I fell the same...It is hard to stay off of Facebook because everything updates itself and it always fun to know what your friends are doing. I agree that when it comes to watching things I would prefer the tv because it is way clearer and the screen is bigger! Plus the Internet is very convenient because everything is on the Internet. One could look up something as small as how do you tie your shoes and the Internet will have several links showing you how! Our generation has the biggest tool that past generations have not had!
